One of the side effects of not having posted in so long is a huge backlog of stuff to write about. Back in April I attended the annual awards banquet held by my local chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators. This year the banquet had a Las Vegas theme, including an Elvis impersonator who entertained us during dinner and helped hand out awards afterward.
I’ve been a member of IABC for a number of years, and I’ve attended the awards banquet a number of years. For a variety of reasons, I’ve never entered one of my communications pieces in the contest. However, this year I walked away with an award. I was very unexpectedly given the chapter’s award for all the volunteer work I’ve done on behalf of the chapter. (I have served 2 years as treasurer and a year as webmaster.) It was very flattering, and quite a fun night. Incidentally, isn’t Mrs. Flametoad beautiful?
