I want to thank everyone for the birthday well-wishes yesterday. They really made my day, and certainly helped balance out the hour and a half I spent waiting to get a new driver’s license. But enough about me. Let’s look at where our future is heading.

First, for all you e-book nay-sayers, just wait. "Meanwhile, tweaks to the particles, solution, and electronics have boosted the refresh rate from one frame per second in current displays to 30 frames per second in a ‘video ink’ prototype." Daily Prophet, anyone?

Next, it looks like solar power may be getting much more efficient. How does a jump from 30% to 60% efficiency sound? If they can make the manufacturing process affordable, we may finally be able to cast off our dependance on foreign countries for our energy needs.

Finally, researchers appear to have a strong lead on reversing Alzheimer’s symptoms. That’ll be a huge relief to millions of baby boomers. The only thing the article doesn’t mention is how frequently the treatment has to be applied.

All in all, the future is looking bright. If we can avoid that whole end-of-the-world thing with the Mayan calendar in 2012, we’ll be golden.
