These days I identify myself as a Libertarian, which means I generally sit back and watch the fire and vitriol between supporters of their candidates with a certain amount of academic disinterest. But this? This scares the hell out of me.
“Those who beat their swords into plowshares… will be ruled by those who don’t.”
As partywhipple said, the genie is out of the bottle. Anyone who took 3 seconds in consideration would realize that in a global race to disarm, the country that keeps even a nuke in reserve wins. Iran lied for years about the existence of their nuclear program, so what makes us think they can be further trusted in negotiations? They know that until you’re in “the club”, you’re just a pawn. Once you’ve got “the club”, you’ve got real power. That power in turn can be wielded as security, influence over your neighbors, and economic concessions. India and Pakistan hate each other way too much to disarm. China has no reason to give up their nukes, and they have their eye on space. They’d be crazy not to be thinking about space weaponization. In a large scale war the single-most disruptive thing an enemy could do would be to take out our communications and GPS satellites.
Between this and the “spread the weath around” comment, I’m shocked that any rational person would vote for him.
This more than anything else makes me think Obama is unfit for office. I can handle a low-rent Carter sequel for a while, so long as 4 years later we can dump his butt out of office. This kind of talk makes me wonder if there will be a 4 years later.
