I Thought it Couldn’t Get Worse

Posted Thursday, January 10th, 2008 at 5:17 am

So a couple days ago I was bitching about Bionic Woman. I actually finished the first episode, so I’ve set a benchmark for my stamina. However, Ultraviolet came in the mail from Netflix and it made Bionic Woman look like frickin’ Macbeth. Wow. Okay, note to self. Anime can be cool, but it doesn’t translate well to live action.

Oh, today’s my birthday. Feel free to shower me with gifts for the accomplishment of surviving another 365 days. At least I finally get to replace that old driver’s license. It’s so old, I still had hair.

Have you seen Equilibrium? Excellent movie, and was the an excellent flick starring Christian Bale…

When UltraVoilet was first mention, I hoped it would be a continuation of Equilibrium, but it turned out not to be… (Same universe, different period of time).

UltraViolet is a pale comparison to Equilbrium…. But it wasn’t *that* bad. I rate it a 6 or 7 out of 10….

And I admit, I have only seen the first 3 Bionic Woman episodes, and there are plot holes you can drive a semi through…. But I have seen *FAR WORSE* on TV… They at least seem to be trying….

Ultraviolet was visually pretty, and once I understood that it was essentially a live-action anime I could watch it with the right frame of mind. The effects, costuming, and set design were elaborate. Still, other than having my curiosity satisfied, it’s something I could have lived without. I’ll take a look at Equilibrium. Thanks for taking the time to recommend it.

I’m now about 30 minutes into the second episode of Bionic Woman, and so for the acting has been better than in the pilot. It’s still flat, but I’ll try to give it a few more episodes to find its legs. It’s nice to see the guy responsible for Skynet (circa T2) acting again. So far the most interesting character is the boss.

Happy B-Day!

You think those sucked? Try AEON FLUX (SUX) for mind numbing banality.

Oh, I have. After Grace was born pretty much all movie-going came to a screeching halt. So I added just about any sci-fi movie that’s been released since then. Unfortunately, there’s been a lot of stinkers.

I’m breaking the chain with Die Hard 4 up next, though.

Well, it’s not quite as bad as the aforementioned….

Hey, I’ve started reading your Nocturnes book. I finished Cancer Cowboy Rides Again and Mr. Pettington’s Daemon. You’re right. This guy is a great writer.
