A few days ago I stumbled across a reference to an organization called Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. Apparently it is a nationwide, grassroots student movement that started as a response to the Virginia Tech shootings. This organization has a Facebook page, so I went online to find it. Typing a search for the organization name from within Facebook brought up a list of similar organizations, individual university chapters, and a number of “anti” organizations.
Each organization listed in Facebook had some kind of icon. Many of the “anti” organizations used the “no” symbol (circle bisected with a slash) over a gun. One organization used the image to the left of this post. At the bottom it says it was created by a 6 year old, so it’s understandable that it would express a rather simplistic view. What I don’t get is how someone in college could fail to see the irony in using this image as an icon for gun control.
We have a picture of a gun-wielding carjacker, whom everyone would agree is a bad person. Then we have the good people (helpfully labeled), who are lying in pools of their own blood. Okay, so… person with gun = alive. Defenseless “good” people = dead. Whether he realizes it or not, clearly this 6 year old is onto something.
I’m not a student, but I do work on a college campus. Be careful! I joined the Students for Concealed Carry on Campus group on Facebook. I’m a bad person.

Oh my lord….
You can almost choke on the irony.
I just went back to the site to confirm that it wasn’t someone’s joke. No.
One thing I don’t understand in American way of life: What changes if you’re able to conceal your weapon? What about showing it openly? To me it doesn’t matter in the end.
I’m not sure why it’s called “concealed carry”. In Texas it’s just a license to carry a handgun, whether concealed or openly. Maybe other states have rules about how a weapon is or isn’t displayed.
In Texas with a CHL,you cannot legally carry out in the open. The weapon must be concealed at all times (except when you are using it to protect your life).
