The TV sitcom How I Met Your Mother is entering its third season, and if you are not watching this show you are missing some of the funniest writing in television. It’s an ensemble show like Friends, but with sharper writing. The characters, even the womanizing Barney played by a brilliant Neil Patrick Harris, are endearing. Episodes juggle laugh-out-loud slapstick and heart-melting sentiment, sometimes within the same scene.
I caught a few episodes the first season, then was able to catch up when it came out on DVD. By that point the 2nd season had started, so I let the Tivo catch it and I’ve been slowly catching up on the season. I just finished last season’s finale and the first episode of this season. Now I’m only behind by this week’s episode.
This clip barely does the show (or even this particular episode) justice, but it’s a start.
Now that I have your interest, you can watch a 3 minute summary of the first 2 seasons . You get none of the humor, but at least you have a faint clue as to what’s going on.
