Jerry Pournelle has posted a short article on his website about how China is changing the 200 year status quo in the steel trade. It is certainly an article worth reading because we’ll be seeing the same thing repeated in many other industries. For instance, remember that for all you read and hear about how the greedy US is guzzling oil as if it were water, China is quickly overtaking us (if they haven’t done so already). Or how the cost of paper keeps going up because of China’s insatiable hunger for wood–both for paper and for construction. Terrorism gets the headlines, but it’ll be China that most dramatically changes the world in our lifetimes.
