One Step Closer to the Future

06.05.07 | Comment?

This video (embedded below) of cutting-edge image handling technology reminds me of an article I read years ago about how FPS software publishers were seeking the holy grail of on-the-fly variable image resolution display. By that, I mean when you look at an image in a 3d environment from far away you are presented with less detail than images that are near. It’s a simple concept, but at the time at least it was proving to be a lot more difficult to effectively program. I think this video demonstrates a peak, if not the pinnacle, of that goal. This is one of those technologies that has the potential to completely change how we interact with information. Combine this with Microsoft’s surface computing, and in 5 years we’ll be looking back on today’s desktop setup with embarrassment.

Note the e-book and marketing angles, too!
