Last Friday I made a point of seeing the “new” Transformers movie. I put the word new in quotes because the movie been out for about a month now. I panicked after discovering that Die Hard 4 has already left the theaters before I had an opportunity to see it, so I dropped everything and took off the afternoon to catch some giant robot ass-kicking action. I can’t really say anything about it that hundreds of other people haven’t already said. Yes the plot is paper thin and the characters are all laughable stereotypes. But the robots still beat the crap out of one another, which was kinda the whole point.
If you absolutely must read another review of this movie, author Melinda Snodgrass saw it the same weekend as I and shared her own impressions.
I also watched House of Flying Daggers on DVD. This is a visually stunning story that starts out like an action movie but quickly becomes a love story. You won’t be sorry if you add it to your Netflix queue.
Finally, I’m slowly working my way through Season 2 of How I Met Your Mother. This is almost the only TV show I bother to watch, which is kinda crazy since I’m not at all a fan of sitcoms. The writing is top notch, the acting is tight, and Neil Patrick Harris has superb comedic timing. I missed the first part of the season, but Mrs. Flametoad’s Christmas present (a Tivo) has been quietly picking up the reruns. I waited until now when I could watch the entire season in order. I’m about 5 episodes into the season.
Valid points on her review, but I didn’t go see it for dialogue and ENGLISH PATIENT love stories. I went to see robot-fu.
I got robot-fu, so I am not disappointed. Granted, the average American moviegoer doesn’t have the brains to successfully pick their nose, much less follow a complicated plot in a movie. But, gee. I didn’t expect CITIZEN KANE.
It’s not like we all watched the Pamela Anderson/Tommy Lee video for a thought-provoking comment on relationships and a whimsical look at American marriage, now did we??
We got what we went to see.
It seemed like one of her biggest complaints was that the camera action was so fast during the end battle sequences that it was hard to follow the fights and keep track of who was whom. I’ll give her that one…but on another level I didn’t really care. It was one robot beating the crap out of another one. I knew we’d sort out the pieces later.
