Those of you who read FlameToad via RSS or LiveJournal won’t notice a difference, but those of you who actually visit the site to read this hardly need to be told that I’ve made some big changes to the design. Back in early April I mentioned that I’d be redesigning the FlameToad site, and today is Phase 1 of that redesign.

Okay, the truth is that Phase 1 is the majority of the change you’ll be seeing. Any other changes will just be small, stylistic tweeks. I’d like to make some improvements to one of the sidebar widgets, and it’s probably time I created an “About Flametoad” page. I kinda have mixed feelings about the new look. I’m afraid the FlameToad drawing now gracing the site (which comes courtesy of Len from Jawbone Radio) dominates the page. I may experiment with some other designs in a few weeks…or not. I want to give it some time to grow on me before I start making other changes or even start over.

If you see anything that looks screwy, please let me know. For that matter, I’d appreciate some feedback on the new design. Do you like it or hate it? WHAT about it do you like or hate? What can I do to make it better?

I liked it the way it was. It was a great, eye-catching design, with good navigational tools and whatnot.

Yeah. I used it for close to two years, but it was starting to show its age behind the scenes. It predated some of the newer blog functionality. Also, it always bugged me that the header had a lizard at the top instead of a toad.

I’m going to try to continue to improve the layout and organization, but if there’s something in particular that you’d like to see work differently please let me know.

After the pleasant colored background on the old site, this one seems very… white. Overall graphically it’s not as aesthetically pleasing (to me at least), but the organization seems better.

Yeah… the other design was quite detailed and elegant. I was going for something more minimalist, but I think it just comes across as plain. When I get some time I may try refining the look. I may either try a neutral colored background, reduce the size of the logo, or make a few other small changes to recapture some of the elegance from the old design.

Really miss the lizard. But looking forward to seeing the toad. :)

About Flametoad

Flametoad is the personal website for Preston DuBose, a full-time e-commerce and credit card security professional for the higher-education market, a part-time RPG publisher, and a full-time husband and father.

I ignore conventional blogging wisdom and refuse to focus on a single topic. This website covers gaming, family life, marketing, security, literature, music, and just about anything else shiny that catches my eye.

Do you think I might be your long lost nephew, to whom you'd like to bequeath your vast financial empire? Find my e-mail address and read more of my bio on the About Flametoad page.

I get a small thrill every time someone bothers to respond to one of my posts. I get a big thrill when you post naked pictures of yourself. Well, not YOU.
