I’m still making tweeks to the Flametoad site. If you read this on LJ or via RSS, please take a moment and visit the site. I finally got around to creating a real footer. I suspect the content may continue to shuffle around for a while, but the layout is there, and since it’s widgetized I can easily move content around without spending a lot of time on code.
My philosophy with this design was to emphasize you, the reader, in the regular sidebar. That’s why MyBlogLog and Recent Comments are so prominent. Navigation was actually kept to a minimum. So when I designed the footer, I knew that at least one column would be devoted to navigation. You’ve got the 10 most recent posts, posts by month, and posts by day via the calendar. Currently the middle column of the footer is an "about me" blurb, but I haven’t decided whether or not that will stay. The same goes for the right-hand column. On one hand I kinda like my LibraryThing widget, but I’m not sure if it’s the best use of that space. What do you think? Should I move to the About Flametoad page (which needs a lot more fleshing out) instead of duplicating it in the footer of every single page? It might also be nice to have a Flikr widget down there, but I haven’t found one I like yet.
