Breaking Up Is Hard to Do

Posted Tuesday, June 26th, 2007 at 7:41 am

Monday morning on my drive to work I contemplated the need to re-examine my list of podcasts. I’m not one of those people who can listen to people talking and still concentrate on other work, so my podcast listening time is at a premium. Lately I’ve been hearing podcast bumpers for some interesting, funny radio dramas and I added the Yog-Sothoth podcast to my lineup. That meant something else would to have to go. As went down my mental list, two possibilities came to mind. Slice of Sci-Fi is fun, informative show. It’s also where I learned about Charlie Jade. Unfortunately, it’s just too darn long and comes out too frequently for my listening habits. Then there’s Geek Fu Action Grip. It had a good run and the serialized audiobook was entertaining, but it felt like it was becoming more about the cult of personality around its host. I’m sure it’s fun if you’re into that, but I just don’t have the time. So there were my two candidates. I resolved that I would unsubscribe from both the next time I opened iTunes.

At work I opened my RSS feed reader (I use Google Reader) to skim through the morning blog report, and that’s when I discovered that Geek Fu was dumping me. Here I’d just resolved to break up with her, and she turns around and breaks up with me first! Oh the irony! Sure, she says it’s not me. It’s her. She’s burnt out. We’ve been having trouble for a while and she just didn’t want to admit it. Well, it’s probably for the best that it’s over. Now we can both move on with our lives.

About Flametoad

Flametoad is the personal website for Preston DuBose, a full-time e-commerce and credit card security professional for the higher-education market, a part-time RPG publisher, and a full-time husband and father.

I ignore conventional blogging wisdom and refuse to focus on a single topic. This website covers gaming, family life, marketing, security, literature, music, and just about anything else shiny that catches my eye.

Do you think I might be your long lost nephew, to whom you'd like to bequeath your vast financial empire? Find my e-mail address and read more of my bio on the About Flametoad page.

I get a small thrill every time someone bothers to respond to one of my posts. I get a big thrill when you post naked pictures of yourself. Well, not YOU.
