Not only is he carrying a gun, which looks like a classic .45 to me, but if you look on his belt, he’s got a knife as well. It probably has some super-ammo selection that lets him shoot non-lethal shells (which is kind of a wimp-out).
Personally, I like my comic-book heroes like Batman – eccentric and not too far removed from the bad guys they go after. Originally, Batman carried a .45 as well.
