The lines are being drawn. Ah, who am I kidding? The lines were drawn years ago and the battles are fought every day. Each side gains and loses ground.
If the title of this post wasn’t enough of a hint, I’m talking about gun control. This article does a pretty good job of explaining why the court case Parker v District of Columbia is gearing up to be one helluva landmark case. In short, it sets the stage for the Supreme Court to decide whether the 2nd Amendment refers to rights of the individual or “collective” rights as determined by the states. This is definitely a case to watch even if you don’t care about gun control one way or another. If the government can decide that a “right” in our constitution doesn’t really apply to individuals and is left to government to bestow or deny at will, then we’ve lost all rights.
As a Libertarian I believe in the right to own and peaceably carry firearms, so I want to see District of Columbia take a piledriver from Parker.
Yep. Nuff said. I blogged about this as well.
I don’t particularly want to belabor this point, but I did stumble across this apt assessment of the likely effectiveness of banning guns.
Yeah, I read this guy’s stuff quite often.
Logic and reasoning have no place in the liberal mindset.
I just emailed you scary stuff happening in Chicago, that you might want to add to the discussion.
I think I’ll end this on a positive note. This is what happens when guns aren’t banned.
