Fire in the Hole

Fire in the Hole coverA couple weeks ago we released the d20 System edition of Fire in the Hole. As an adventure, it’s a deadly but fun one-off. But as a kick-off to a Stargate SG-1 style campaign, it totally rocks. You play soldiers scouting a military base that had been the site of a zombie attack. Although the zombies are more or less gone, far more strange–and deadly–things hide within the base. If you can’t tell, I’m particularly excited by the campaign options. Jerry wrote a highly detailed cavern generator for caverns under the base, and Ed contributed 20 mission ideas in a meta-plot for fighting the threat facing the heroes and the world at large. This could make a really fun military-horror campaign with the right group of players. The edition for Savage Worlds has been green-lighted, and will be available for sale later this week. We’ll also be releasing support materials for Fire in the Hole this week as well.

RunePunk, the title I laid out for Reality Blurs, is getting great response. The setting itself is sparking the imaginations of many Savage Worlds gamers, and the book’s look has gotten several compliments. While I can take no credit for the former, I can at least enjoy the latter.

If you’re actually reading this on the Flametoad site, you might notice that I added a new book to LibraryThing (in the menu on the right). It was Under the Yoke, by S.M. Stirling. I am a big fan of Stirling, but I’ve been reading this book off and on for more than three years. It is a hard read because it graphically deals with such difficult subjects–racism, torture, rape, slavery, you name it. You know it’s bad when he makes the Nazis look like the lesser of two evils. Anyway, this time I picked it up and saw that I only had 100 more pages to go and resolved to finish it. It was good in its own way, and I suppose I’m glad I read it, but I’m also glad to move on to other things. I have two Repairman Jack books waiting for me, in fact. More on that later.
