This is an interesting video on more than one level. First, because I’ve seen so-called educated people claim that using a binary on a plane isn’t feasible. Sure looks like it to me. As a guy, I can also appreciate it simply for the coolness of the explosion itself. Reminds me of a certain pumpkin video I saw not that long ago. On yet another level, the video seems to be telling us that we should be afraid of what terrorists will do with this modern explosive.

Well, duh. But should we be any more afraid than before? I mean, our capacity for destruction will always outstrip our capacity for restraint. Terrorists have already proven they don’t need a sophisticated explosive to spread fear. They just need a box cutter and an airplane. We’re already on alert; this is just one more tool at their disposal. But their goal is to spread fear, because they understand that in fear we destroy ourselves. Sure, binary explosives are dangerous. So are nukes. My generation has lived under the real threat radioactive death raining from above our entire lives. I will not live my life in fear.

That was scarey, but your response provided good perspective. I won’t be afraid. I belong to God anywho.

Yoda: “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Personally, I’d want verification of that.

I find it more plausible that someone could put together a bogus video than that a gram of red stuff you can mix at home in 30 minutes would vaporize a pen and watermelon instantly.

You could be right. For what it’s worth, it sounds like mixing is the easy part. Getting your hands on the substance itself may require a lot more money and connections. The pumpkin in the videos in this post pretty much vaporized, albeit probably with a greater quantity of more conventional gunpower.

A binary explosive could have been used in the pumkin video. Binary explosive is just a two part explosive. Where each part is relativly safe, but when mixed it becomes much more. Like two class B explosives when mixed become a higher class.

But hey, what do I know?

I do want to play with the stuff in the video.
