But First, The News

I have a RPG-related post coming later today or tomorrow, but first let me clear through the news.

It Was Only a Matter of Time
A movie studio is soliciting funding directly through the public. A Swarm of Angels is a project to solicit 1,000,000 British Pounds from 50,000 contributors. Each person essentially buys stock in the project and gets direct involvement on one aspect of the film production. The first wave of investors get to look at, and comment on, the script. The next wave may look at teaser production, or pre-production planning, or whatever. When the film is released, the profits will be distributed to the “Angel” shareholders. I think this is a funding scheme whose time has come. I’m sure this kind of thing has been tried before, but the power of the internet for informing and organizing a large enough pool, coupled with a reputable production company, means that this has a shot at success. If it does work, I’m sure we’ll see much more of it. Imagine directly investing in the movies of your choice. Vote with your wallet just how badly you want to see that new fantasy or sci-fi movie.

What’s the deal with today’s Order of the Stick? Are we to assume he’s standing on the table and shouting for joy? Is is just drunk? Am I missing something else entirely?

HL2: Ep1
Half Life 2: Episode 1 is now preloading through Steam. It’s $19.95 on its release day of June 1. If you preorder then you save 10%. I tried ordering yesterday but my credit card is so worn I can no longer read the security code on the back. I had to call the CC company and order a new one. I was then informed that I was scheduled to get a new one anyway, since mine expires in a few months. The friendly rep (whom I’m sure was in India) assured me that he would put a priority on my card and get it in the mail today or tomorrow. Anyway. HL2. Good stuff. Can’t wait.

I have a confession to make. I’m in my 30s and have two children, and only saw The Godfather for the first time this past weekend. Yeah, it was quite a good movie. My only nitpick is that I wasn’t keen on the transitions, but that was just the style at the time. The movie itself was beautiful and touching.

You know you are a geek when you see Firefly and Serenity before The Godfather. hehe

I still need to get my hands on HL 2.

Roy is deffinetly jumping for joy, not drunk. If he was drunk, then he wouldn’t have waited until she left before standing on the table…

HL2 is a very satisfying FPS. Almost better than the original (but I’m still a sucker for the soldiers chatter in HL1. Nothing quite like tossing a grenade into a room and hearing “Oh SHIT!” over the comm ;))

The graphics and problem solving for HL2 are much improved. Game never quite bores you as the levels are varied not just in style, but in actual gameplay – one level might be run N gun, another stealth and the next high speed driving. Lots of cool stuff.

My one big complaint was the ending which was a bit weird and unsatisfying so I’m really keen to hear that there are more chapters coming out. I will be in line for those!

Really? I actually liked the ending. Sure it was abrupt and left me wanting to find out what happened next, but I dug the weirdness. I guess I’m strange that way. :)
