Books, Movies and TV

Those pictures in my brain

In non-gaming news, I did take off part of Friday afternoon to go see Constatine. I consider it “business research”. It was a good flick. I enjoyed myself. It was definitely “12 to Midnight” material to the hilt. I plan on writing a short review for the site, so I won’t repeat myself here.

At the theater, I saw quite a few previews (in no particular order):

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. I’m not sure about this one. I want it to be brilliant, but it has an enormous legacy to live up to.
Kingdom of Heaven. Eh. Could be good. It could be Troy by another name.
Interpreter. Mmmm…Nicole Kidman. And I think there is acting, too!
House of Wax. Errr…Paris Hilton? We’re led to believe that there is acting. (Okay, all kidding about questionable cast choices aside, it looks like a pretty scary-freaky movie.)

Hitchhikers comes out in early May, with Star Wars to follow a couple weeks later. And both before Memorial Day. So much for the traditional summer box office season. The movies I am most interested in are NOT coming out this summer, namely Star Wars, Serenity (Firefly), and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Green’s Guide has been consuming my life lately, so I have made almost no progress on my reading of Brust’s To Reign in Hell. I think this is his first book that really didn’t grab me early on. (Maybe with the exception of Freedom & Necessity, which more than made up for it later.) Of course, the lack of time to read didn’t stop me from buying more books. A trip to Half-Price Books during their +20% off sale has completely restocked my book stack. It is now comfortably up to the high teens again. Unfortunately, there are two books I want that I won’t find at Half-Price: F. Paul Wilson’s latest Repairman Jack novel, and Charlene Harris’ latest southern vampire book. Both hardbacks will cost me more than the entire sack of books I bought at Half-Price last week.
