Words of wisdom from a combustable amphibian.

The story so far…

It has been nearly a month since my last real post, although that statement is almost irrelevent since I deleted all my old posts and started over. I’ll try to give you a quick rundown of life lately, since I don’t know when I’ll get this chance again. I don’t even really have the time for this *now*.

Starting with books, right now I am reading NEW ORLEANS GHOSTS, a book by New Orleans native Victor Klein. While the writing isn’t perfect, it’s at least not off-putting either. Not long ago I finished a Michael Stackpole book called Eyes of Silver. I had been putting off reading it for quite a while because I was turned off by the cover. It looks more like a romance novel than anything else. Fortunately, Stackpole once again came through with the high level of writing I have come to expect from him. Before Eyes of Silver (or maybe after, I can’t keep track), I read another Steven Brust book called Brokedown Palace. It too was enjoyable, though of a slightly different tone than I am accustomed with Brust. In some ways the ending wasn’t quite what I expected. Usually I don’t consider that a bad thing, but in this case it left me feeling kind of flat.

I’ve watched so many movies from Netflix I can’t possibly keep track. I saw the remake of The Alamo. I thought it was pretty fair, although I stand with many other people in wondering at how much time was devoted to San Jacinto. It seems a bit incongruous. I also watched Shaun of the Dead. Damn that was a funny movie. Not much else I can say about it. I’m sure there are others I saw since my last post, but it has been too long. Aliens vs. Predator awaits me, and hopefully The Village will arrive by the weekend.

Green’s Guide to Ghosts is in layout. For something that started life as a short PDF, the final page count will exceed 50 pages. It certainly won’t be out by the end of the month, but hopefully it won’t be much longer. We have gone a LONG time without a new release (not counting the Dispatch), but I still want to make sure we do it right. The second issue of Modern Dispatch has mostly beed laid out. I just need to go back and tweek a couple of things. That one, issue 30, will be released this coming Monday. I didn’t really have a hand in this one (other than layout), as I was working on Green’s Guide edits at the time. Weathered is in playtest and early edits. First complete drafts for Pinebox Pawn and Pharmaceutical Row (both from freelancers) look to soon be coming our way. Somewhere in there, I’ve got to start working on outlines for Last Rites 2 and Moonlight & Death.

Kyle is moving back home, so maybe now I’ll get to see him more than once or twice a year. Jason is closing on his house next week. Christine is ending her maternity leave and returning to work next week. Grandpa is in a nursing home and his daughters are cleaning out his house in preparation for its sale. It seems like everyone around me is in a state of flux.

About Flametoad

Flametoad is the personal website for Preston DuBose, a full-time e-commerce and credit card security professional for the higher-education market, a part-time RPG publisher, and a full-time husband and father.

I ignore conventional blogging wisdom and refuse to focus on a single topic. This website covers gaming, family life, marketing, security, literature, music, and just about anything else shiny that catches my eye.

Do you think I might be your long lost nephew, to whom you'd like to bequeath your vast financial empire? Find my e-mail address and read more of my bio on the About Flametoad page.

I get a small thrill every time someone bothers to respond to one of my posts. I get a big thrill when you post naked pictures of yourself. Well, not YOU.
