12 to Midnight, Games

I Don’t Know if It’s the Ultimate, But It’s Cool…

Today has been one of those uber-busy days. Bounced from one meeting to another meeting to a luncheon for the International Association of Business Communicators. We had a photographer who has done work with National Geographic as our speaker. He gave one heck of a slide show. It ran 30 minutes over, and most everyone stayed. After lunch I had 15 minutes until my next meeting. Finally the rest of the day (what is left of it) is mine.

Reviewers…it’s definitely a love-hate relationship. Some are great. They accurately describe your product and just seem to “get it”. Others you really have to wonder if they read it at all. We just got a bad review that’s leaving me more than a little displeased. And I don’t mean bad as in negative (although it was), but bad as in poorly done. The reviewer admitted to never having played d20 Modern, and apparently missed the big 1-page introduction that explained he was reading a 1-shot convention module. He had some gripes that I may not agree with but I can at least respect that they were his opinion. But other parts were just totally out of left field. But what can you do? It’s a price you pay as a publisher. All I can do is ask that he not review our stuff anymore.

And finally, it’s billed as the ultimate gaming table. I’ve blogged about gaming tables before, and to be honest I think they were both cooler in their own ways. But this one is still pretty nice.

Reviewing can be tough as well. I’m currently looking at Brainwashed and hope to write up my review this weekend. I am totally comfortable with you looking at the review prior to posting and even could use that opportunity to discuss things the might be “out of left field”.

I review under the name Man-thing on EnWorld and have reviewed a number of things, but not a ton. I believe my reviews are very thorough and hopefully fair. Let me know, if you would like to discuss the review before posting.

That table was pretty sweet. They are from Houston too!

Howdy Mark. Welcome to my blog! Actually, I noticed you mentioning that you were working on a Brainwashed review out on the ENWorld forums, so I’ve been looking forward to seeing it.

I’ll be glad to answer any questions you may have, just as I would for anyone who bought the module, but I don’t think it would be right for me to look at the review before it came out. That could give the appearance of me influencing your review or “stacking the deck”, and I wouldn’t want to put either of us in the position of having to defend ourselves from those kinds of accusations.

Still, it’s really cool of you to offer and I really will be glad to answer any questions. I hope you’re enjoying the module. I’m “Mr. Linear” among the in-house writers, so I recognize that as a shortcoming in my modules. I’m working on breaking that trend in my next adventure.

Thanks for stopping by. It’s fun it know that someone other than my immediate friends are finding their way here. I hope you find something in here worth reading.
