How About Some Gaming News for a Change?

10.20.05 | Comment?

Looking back, gaming news has been pretty thin around here lately, so for those of you who read this for the inner workings of 12 to Midnight–this one is for you.

Skinwalker is really coming along nicely. Cover art is more than 50% done and we’re still on track to have the final version by the end of the month. It’s going to be quite a sinister cover. We’ll be posting a preview on our site once it’s available. Interior art is also coming along. Our interior artist is simultaneously illustrating a children’s book, so he’s jumping from one extreme to another. I wonder if each is influencing the other? The body of the adventure is in the hands of our master editor, Trey Gorden. Once he’s done with it, it’s DONE. I’m halfway through my edits for the appendix and hope to have the remainder done by this weekend. I already gave Jerry the half I finished, so that’s pushing along. I really can see the light at the end of the tunnel on this one.

Just to give you an idea of how dedicated I am to getting Skinwalker done, I was working on the appendix last night instead of watching the Astros clinch a spot on the World Series! WTF was I thinking? I’d better have that appendix finished by Saturday, huh?

On Sunday we released our latest Modern Dispatch. This one, Revenant, was written by Neal Hyde, and is a strong issue. Lots of good meat, there. I hope he’ll keep writing for us.

I wrote out a page of ideas for the next Modern Dispatch and playtested it this past Tuesday with Ed and Jason. It went okay, but the heroes were set up for failure from the very beginning and I don’t like that. I need to figure out how to give them a genuine chance to succeed but still make it believable and difficult. I’m afraid I can’t tell you what it’s about, but I’ll give you a hint. Mrs. Flametoad is helping me with the science.

We’ve been working on Skinwalker so long, it’ll be strange (yet refreshing) to work on something new. Upon its release (if not before) 12 to Midnight needs to make a committment to work on the campaign book for a few weeks. Having freelancers write our Modern Dispatches will help free up our time for the campaign book, too. So if you’re a freelancer, don’t delay. We are actively handing out assignments for Modern Dispatch. It’s a great way to get your feet wet and build a resume of professional writing credits.
