Halloween & More

Ben the Builder and mommyFirst and foremost, my Halloween Sidewalk of Horror report is finally ready. It includes several photos that can be clicked to enlarge and with mouseover captions. It even includes one video. Unfortunately none of the photos really do it justice, but that’s to be expected when you’re taking a picture of black plastic at night. I’ll be adding a permanent link in the menu, but it’s going to require a little bit of code tweaking in the template first. In the meantime, enjoy.

As you can see from the photo, the tadpole dressed up as “Bob the Builder”. Could that little guy get any cuter? I don’t think so. I didn’t relate this in the “sidewalk” report, but Mrs. Flametoad got paged into work just as we were about to go trick-or-treating. What’s even worse is that it was a false alarm. Someone needs to be severely beaten over that one. Rest assured that the tadpole still got to make the rounds.

In other news, they’ve always said you are what you eat. In this case, you are what you drink. According to the comments, the models are computer generated. Could-a fooled me.

Finally, in RPG-related news, we had some cool things happen late last week. The first is that we might finally start distributing under an additional online retailer. I’ll leave it at that until the details are worked out, but in the meantime I’ll remind everyone that we’re already available at RPGNow and Great White Games. The other bit of news is that RPGNow has struck a print distribution deal with several distributors. Why is that a big deal? Well, if you follow the above link and read through the posts you’ll see that 12 to Midnight gets some nice word of mouth. It seems like we often fall off the radar when people start talking horror. I’m convinced that this has nothing to do with the quality of our work, but only the length of time between releases. It was extremely gratifying to get some appreciation, especially in such a public thread. While we didn’t make the cut for the first round of releases, I think those posts went a long way toward securing us a spot on the second round (if there is one).

To be honest, I really hit the Fall doldrums a few weeks ago. This partially may have been due to my working on the next Modern Dispatch. Have I mentioned that writing is hard? Because it is. Even when you have a great idea and know exactly what you want to write, finding that inner motivation to sit down and do it is really tough–at least for someone as undisciplined as I. The end of last week finally helped snap me out of that mood and I’m ready to charge ahead. I finished the Modern Dispatch I was writing, which was a huge relief. Ironically, Kim brought home chinese food Friday night and my fortune was something to the effect of “Take time off now so you’ll be more effective later.” Alright already! I got the message. I took a few nights off to read. Heck, I even downloaded the Doom 3 demo and played through it one night. (And that’s a whole other post.) Now I’m recharged and ready to take on the world! (Right after tonight’s Rippers campaign, that is.)
