First the usual web fun, then on to personal stuff…

Web Sites Let Users Send E-Mail to Future : “The site is one of a handful that let people send e-mails to themselves and others years in the future. They are technology’s answer to time capsules, trading on people’s sense of curiosity, accountability and nostalgia.”

Makes you stop and really consider what you’d tell your future self, which I guess is the point. Now if they could only figure out how to get messages the other direction. Boy would I have have some things to say to my college-age self. “Dear me, Don’t bother with Haley, it’s a waste of time. However, ask out that cute girl you work with. Drop your major and get into Computer Science, or at the very least Advertising, PR, or Business. Get out there and make more friends. It’s not as hard as you think, but it does involve leaving your apartment…”

In advertising-related fun, this is a cute series of ads for binoculars.

Low Life is coming out today. Woohoo! Soon I will be able to fulfill my dream of roleplaying a snack cake.

It’s a strange Christmas season this year. My grandfather is in bad, bad shape. He’s stopped eating, has a raging kidney infection, etc. He has alzheimers, and a stroke left him unable to talk. Sometimes you can briefly see recognition in his eyes, and other times you can tell he’s turned inward remembering something from decades ago. His body is failing him, and there’s no doubt he has to be in a lot of pain. At this point I just want him to finally have some peace. When I get old and my body starts failing me, I’m moving to a state with assisted suicide. Our technology has improved to the point where we can extend someone’s life far longer than we can extend their quality of life. I suppose this has alwasy been the case, but I think it’s about time we consider how to improve someone’s life, and not just keep their body living. I just got a call from Mom, and I’m taking a turn at the hospital on Thursday so that someone is with him each day. We’re not having someone there ’round the clock, but it’s pretty much down to a deathwatch. Two of my three closest friends also have grandparents in bad shape. This could be a hard winter for all of us.

I’ve been terribly busy with 12 to Midnight stuff, including editing an adventure titled The Beast Within. It will come out late winter/early spring. I ran our latest Modern Dispatch through layout and uploaded more of our titles to DriveThru RPG. I even got us signed up to release a print product in game stores. Exciting stuff! Ed and I have also been brainstorming over our first campaign book, with great results. I can’t wait to start writing this one.

In case I don’t post again before Christmas, Merry Christmas to you all! I hope you each have a wonderful, safe holiday with your friends and loved ones. In all the hustle and bustle, please don’t forget that this holiday is a celebration of the birth of our savior, Jesus. Offer up a prayer of thanksgiving for all the blessings in your life, and in the spirit of His teachings please extend help to someone less fortunate than yourself. Remember: There, but for the grace of God, go I.

I am truly blessed by a wonderful family and numerous friends both locally and online. Merry Christmas to you all.
